After the three-month extension, the day is finally here - Tax Day. While coronavirus has turned many things upside down this year, one facet has stayed consistent – taxes must be paid. Tax Day Checklist
Have the correct paperwork
Regardless of if you are employed, self-employed or unemployed, you’ll need your corresponding forms in order to successfully file your taxes. It’s helpful to also have all income statements on hand and ready, as well as your Social Security number.
Copy all of your files
Having copies of all of your tax forms and other documents will make the process of finding things and filing that much easier. Nothing is worse than looking for your W-2 when Tax Day is quickly approaching and the time to file your taxes is getting closer.
Know your resources
The IRS has many free sites that can help you when it comes to filing your taxes. If you decide to try on your own, look up some of the sites that the IRS offers that can help to make your time easier.
If you decide you need a little more help, contact Satty, Levine & Ciacco, CPAs, P.C.
File for an Extension - Quick
If you still need a little extra time, you can always file for an extension. The request to file an extension will be automatic and will give you another six months to file your taxes. After that, you’ll have until October 15, 2020 to submit your paperwork.
Don’t hesitate to get your papers in. As of May 22, over $89 million in refunds were paid to the American people with an average of $2,772. If you have a refund waiting for you, hurry up and get your return.
Tax Day is here, so don’t fall behind and forget to file your taxes, get organized and get them done. The more organized you are within the process, the smoother it will go. Don’t allow filing your taxes to cause you stress.
